GUWAHATI: The Assam Forest Department intercepted a vehicle and recovered six cages containing exotic monkeys and a wallaby at Hajo near Guwahati on Wednesday, April 27.
The exotic monkeys and the wallaby were recovered based on a tip-off by the North Kamrup Forest Division.
One person has been arrested in this connection, while the other fled from the spot. This was informed by the Assam Forest Department on Twitter.
“Staff of North Kamrup Forest Division intercepted an Innova where six boxes containing monkeys ( seems to be exotic) and a wallaby was found . One person has been arrested in this regard,” the Forest Department tweeted.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain from where the animals were caught and to which destination they were being taken.
