GUWAHATI: As the 2019 Lok Sabha polling in Assam came to an end today, the results of which will be declared on 23rd May, one thing that stood apart was the style of campaigning with the limelight being stolen by the dance moves of BJP's face in the northeast, Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Sarma took the internet by storm with his dance moves as rival parties ridiculed him by saying that he is venting his ire for being denied a ticket to contest in the election.

However, breaking into an impromptu jig on a jingle of the BJP party — “Aakou Ebar, Modi Sarkar (Once again Modi government)” was undoubtedly the flavor of the election season in Assam.

Sarma, known to be serious and somber in appearance, was seen dancing to the tune in various election rallies that he attended in an effort to woo the voters.

Notably, the principal opposition, Congress Party, limited itself to traditional modes like public rallies and door-to-door campaigning.

However, Sarma’s dancing added a new dimension to the poll campaign in Assam, which is otherwise marked by high pitched verbal attacks on opponents.

“The joy & fun of being with people dancing, chanting and rejoicing with them is becoming a habit now,” Sarma tweeted.

“What an incredible video this is from #Nalbari pad yatra  You watch it and I am tempted to say, you shall start shaking too,” Sarma added.

Political leaders across the spectrum have been making last-ditch efforts to woo and win voters’ hearts, and Sarma’s dance was aimed at jubilating party workers and voters.

However, it is difficult to say how much of Sarma’s dance moves will find resonance with voters while they cast their vote, but it was definitely one of the major attractions to the poll campaign this time.

Assam went for its third and final phase of polling in four seats on April 23.
