Educator Who Runs School That Accepts Plastic As Fees Wins ‘Devi Award’

GUWAHATI: Parmita Sarma, an educator and social worker from the city has recently won the prestigious Devi Award in Kolkata. 

She was presented the award by Smriti Irani, Union Minister of Textiles and Women & Development.

The awards recognise and honour the accomplishments of women who have made a distinct mark in their respective fields and contributed to the vision of a competent nation against all odds.

Sarma is the co-founder of Akshar, a city-based charitable school that works to educate poor children and make them self-dependent through professional and vocational training. 

Sarma after receiving the award said that it was a big honour for her and that it is encouraging to know that she and her team are moving in the right direction.
