EC Postpones Guwahati Municipal Poll On Account Of Bihu

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Election Commission on Thursday, March 31, announced the postponement of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election by a few days on account of the Rongali Bihu celebration, starting from April 14 in the State.

The GMC poll has been rescheduled from April 19 to April 22.

The date of counting has been moved from April 21 to April 24.

“…Whereas, a meeting was held with the Political Parties on 31.03.2022 in the office of the State Election Commission, Assam to discuss the representations, memorandums of the Political Parties, in detail regarding postponement of the date of poll and counting: and Whereas, participants were of view to postpone the poll and counting by few days to enable the citizens of the GMC area to celebrate Bohag Bihu for seven days,” an official notification from the State Election Commission read.
