Earth Cutting banned in Kamrup (M) from May 1

GUWAHATI: Kamrup (Metro) district administration has banned the cutting of earth in hilly areas of Guwahati until the monsoon period is over. 

This notice comes after several landslide incidents were reported in the past few weeks. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of North Assam Division, M Angamuthu has issued the ordered with effect from May 1.

After the order was issued, construction work in the hills and other areas has stopped.

According to a report by TOI, concerned departments such as the forest department, PWD and transport department planning and regulatory bodies have been directed not to permit earth cutting and earth filling activity in the hills, water bodies and in low-lying areas of the district. 

The DC has also asked that the constrution permits be cancelled by regulatories like GMDA and GMC. 

Based on a survey, 366 locations across the city have been marked as "vulnerable to landslide."
