Dognappers On the Prowl In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Dog owners in Guwahati have started a campaign to alert pet owners about incidents of dognappings (dog kidnappings) in the city.

A video of a dognapping (dog kidnapping) incident has gone viral on social media platforms, where it was seen that a group of three unidentified men whisked away a dog in a car.

As per the CCTV footage, the unidentified men stopped a car at the Hengrabari area and tried to lure three dogs on the street with some eatables.

While two dogs managed to give a slip to the dognappers, one of the dogs was captured and dumped inside the vehicle. Soon, the vehicle vanished with the dog.

Hemanta Deka, owner of the kidnapped dog, on Monday (May 22) registered an FIR at the Dispur Police Station, and informed that the incident happened on May 19.

While police personnel at Dispur Police Station are still clueless about the intentions of the dognappers, the CCTV footage and a copy of the FIR are in circulation on social media.

Though only one case has been reported to the Dispur Police, there are reports that similar incidents of dognappings have also been reported during the last month in Japorigog as well.

Some people are of the opinion that dog kidnappings are being carried out in Guwahati with the intention of selling the canines.
