District Admin orders city pubs and bars to follow safety requirements

Deputy Commissioner Dr M. Angamuthu directs all pubs, bars, restaurants, cineplex etc in Guwahati to take all required safety measures and submit an updated safety certificate within 30 days. Non submission of the same will lead to suspension/ cancellation of licence of the establishments.

The safety measures which are to be considered are as follows:

Fire safety measures like functional inbuilt fire installation, fire extinguishers, fire exit etc.

  • Electrical safety measures to be properly checked and updated
  • Food safety audit to be done and updated food safety certificate from Health & Family Welfare Dept to be submitted
  • Updated Emergency Disaster Management and Evacuation Plan to be prepared and emergency evacuation route to be designated
  • Safety audit of the lifts are to be done and safety certificate from Chief Electrical Inspector cum Advisor to be submitted.
  • Basic training on fire safety, search & rescue, emergency evacuation to be provided to the staff of the establishment.

The order has been initiated after it came to light that many existing establishments in the city are failing to maintain the food safety norms and do not adhere to the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act 1955.
