Dispur Police Station Gets Additional Officers-In-Charge

GUWAHATI: In a bid to tackle the mounting case backlog and enhance operational efficiency, two additional Officers-in-Charge (OC) have been appointed at the Dispur Police Station in Guwahati.

According to official reports, OC Bhaskar Malla Patowary will now oversee the overall management of the police station’s jurisdiction. Meanwhile, Inspector Krishna Kanta Laskar has been tasked with crime control responsibilities, and Inspector Amarjyoti Gogoi will focus on maintaining law and order as Additional OCs.

Speaking to GPlus, a senior police official highlighted the reasoning behind the appointments. "As the police station looks after a substantial number of cases, this decision was taken to enhance accountability," the official said.

Dispur Police Station, one of the busiest in Assam, has been dealing with a significant backlog of unsolved cases. Despite its critical role in Guwahati, around 75% of registered cases remain unresolved.

"Most of the cases in Guwahati are registered at Dispur Police Station due to its jurisdiction covering important areas of the city. However, only 25% of these cases have been solved, leaving 75% still pending," a senior police official admitted earlier.

The official attributed this backlog to a lack of manpower, which has stretched the existing workforce to its limits. "We are struggling with less workforce," he explained, highlighting the challenges faced by the station in managing the rising caseload.

Dispur Police Station oversees a large area that includes the state’s capital complex as well as several commercial and residential zones. This extensive jurisdiction contributes to its heavy workload, as officers handle a wide array of cases, ranging from petty theft and assaults to complex fraud and cybercrime investigations.
