Diageo India Donates Rs. 1 Cr To CM’s Relief Fund In Support Of Assam Flood Victims

GUWAHATI: In support of the Assam state government’s commendable efforts in flood rescue and relief work, Diageo India, India’s leading premium spirits company donated a sum of Rs. 1 crore to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund on Saturday, August 17. 

The state government is doing commendable work in providing support and aid to the Assamese people who have been badly impacted by the floods this year. A team from Diageo India, led by Sandeep Singhal, Chief Operating Officer – East; Saubhik Mukherjee, Corporate Relations, personally presented the cheque to Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, in Guwahati, reinforcing its commitment to the communities it operates in.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the floods have caused widespread damage with more than 50 lakh people having been affected with many more flood victims seeking shelter in relief camps. Among the most affected districts are Darrang, Barpeta, Chirang, Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, Jorhat and Cachar. A total crop area of approx. 16,221 hectares of land is still under floodwaters.

Reinforcing this commitment, Sandeep Singhal, Chief Operating Offer- East, said, “The Assam State Government under CM Sonowal is doing laudable work in providing timely and necessary aid and relief to the communities and people most impacted by the unprecedented floods. At Diageo India, the well-being of our communities we operate in is important and we are grateful to able to offer our support in this noble initiative at this difficult time and help augment the important work being done by the state and its various representatives.”
