Despite Having a Containment Zone, Kumarpara Sees Massive Rush

GUWAHATI: A recent photograph sent by one of our citizen journalists from Railway Gate number 6 of the Kumarpara area shows an abnormal rush in the early hours of Monday, May 18, although an area in the locality (near Kumar Nursing Home) has been declared as "Contained Zone."

This is subsequent to the fact that despite the count of COVID-19 positive cases being on the rise in Assam, the state government, in the 4th phase of the lockdown, has relaxed the norms for economic activities.

The Kumarpara scenario is true for most market areas of Guwahati which earlier had remained deserted. These are also witnessing a rush without the mandatory "social distancing" norms being adhered to.

With the classic example of Fancy Bazar's Aloo Godown Covid-19 positive case where after the city saw a sudden spike in cases all connected to it, the question remains whether citizens are taking the matter seriously enough in the fight against the dreaded virus.

Questions need to be raised to the district administration and the concerned police station as to what steps are being taken in this regard. The traders’ association can also play an important part in regulating the traffic and footfall of the respective areas in consultation with the authorities.
