GUWAHATI: Even after the two-wheeler taxi service Rapido was shut down on February 22 in Guwahati, the app based service is still continuing with its services.

Bapan Kalita, DTO Kamrup (M) had told G Plus on Saturday, “The office of Rapido service has been sealed as they were plying illegally in the city.”

“Rapido or other Bike Taxi services in the city take all the passengers without availing any commercial license or commercial permit from the DTO,” he further said.

In this regard, many Rapido drivers had also protested against the government at AEI ground, Chandmari on February 23.

Talking to G Plus, an official at Rapido Guwahati said “We have asked the government to provide guidelines and formulate laws for all two-wheeler services at par with other states. However, no response has been given as of yet. Our officials will be meeting with the DTO (Enforcement) Bapan Kalita today. We are continuing with the rides as of now, and I have been reported that the DTO would allow us to continue until proper laws are made.”

Kalita has, however, declined having any information on the continuing services of the app but have informed about the probable meeting with Rapido officials today.
