An Assam Police team is en route to the national capital to take Bora in custody after getting transit remand from court.

It is alleged that a BJP panchayat leader, Debojit Hazarika, recently died by suicide unable to face harassment perpetrated on him by Bora and his accomplices.

According to reports, Bora had filed  an RTI application regarding alleged irregularities in the construction of a temple in Rajapukhuri panchayat, but despite receiving departmental responses, he allegedly continued to harass panchayat representative Hazarika.

Three persons have been arrested in this connection.

It is alleged that Bora would use RTI documents to threaten officials and would stop pursuing after getting money.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said earlier in the day that Bora would be treated as an ordinary criminal and not an RTI activist. He said government departments have been instructed not to respond to his queries under RTI
