Death Toll In Assam Floods Rise To 11, Almost 40,000 Remain Affected

GUWAHATI: The Assam floods claimed yet another life, in Dibrugarh district, with the death toll now rising to 11.

The floods took a turn for the worse as seven districts are now facing the consequences of the rising water levels. The districts in question are Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat and Sivasagar.

18 revenue circles are affected in these seven districts. A total of 259 villages remain affected by the ensuing floods with 104 in Sivasagar alone.

Almost 40,000 people continue to remain affected by floods in Assam. Dhemaji continues to be the worst affected district with 19,194 people still reeling from floods.

Six relief camps are currently operational in the state, all in Sivasagar district. 787 inmates are housed in these camps.  

Moreover, three rivers are flowing above the danger level. They are Disang in Nanglamuraghat, Dikhou in Sivasagar and Brahmaputra in Nimati ghat.
