DBI Crowned Champions Of Inaugural Guwahati Premier Football League 

 

GUWAHATI: The first-ever Guwahati Premier Football League (GPFL) reached its climax with an intense final bout between Deka Bricks Industry (DBI) and Barekuri FC on January 7 at the Judges' Field of Guwahati. 

S George Kom gave Barekuri the lead but DBI were handed a lifeline when the referee awarded them a penalty which was duly converted by Manjit Taro. The match went all the way as the teams could not be separated after normal time with the score remaining 1-1. DBI lifted the trophy after a nail-biting penalty shoot-out that ended 7-6.

The champions were awarded a trophy and cash prize of ₹15 lakh. The runner-up team received a sum of ₹10 lakh and a trophy. 

A cheque of ₹2.5 lakh each was awarded to the semi-finalists NEUFC and Oil India Limited. The player of the tournament trophy was awarded to DBI’s Donbok Lyngdoh.

The Golden Boot was shared by Lyngdoh and Barekuri's Joseph Froebel for scoring the most goals in the league. Ayush Das from Barekuri FC was awarded the Golden Gloves for the most number of clean sheets in the tournament.
