Power cut and poor mobile connectivity major issues; power uninterrupted restoration only after storm stops.

GUWAHATI: Guwahati along with several parts of Assam and the Northeast is reeling under Cyclone Remal, which entered the region after crossing West Bengal.

The cyclonic storm accompanied with rain has been battering Guwahati since Monday, May 27 bringing the city to a virtual standstill. There is no electricity in most  areas of the city since around 10 pm on Monday and the authorities are not holding out much hope for an early restoration.

A senior official of APDCL talking to GPlus said, "We are trying to restore the power,  but because of the wind even after restoring, the connection gets impacted," adding all major lines are up and gradually power will be back in all areas of Guwahati. But the official asserted that uninterrupted power supply will be possible only after the storm stops.

A senior official of the regional metrological department told GPlus, "The impact of Remal is reducing and by tomorrow the situation will be normal." A giant tree fell at VIP road last night injuring a two-wheeler rider.

There are similar reports of trees falling and thatched houses collapsing from many other areas across Guwahati. Meanwhile, the mobile and internet connectivity is also affected by the storm with the telecom service providers facing challenges restoring the connectivity.
