GUWAHATI: The severe cyclonic storm, one of the strongest to batter the Indian subcontinent in decades, weakened before entering Bangladesh on Saturday morning from West Bengal, but it wreaked havoc on coastal villages and towns.
According to the latest information provided by India Meteorological Department (IMD), as of 5 May 2019, the severe cyclonic storm Fani is currently weakened into a depression and lay over Western Meghalaya and adjoining Bangladesh weakened further. It is very likely to move northeastwards and become insignificant.

Cyclone Fani barreled through coastal Odisha on Friday, causing widespread destruction and leaving hundreds homeless and grappling with water shortage and power cuts. At least 39 people died as Cyclone Fani.
It further moved towards West Bengal where it didn't cause much havoc apart from damaging a few huts.
The effect of Fani was also prominent in northeast India that received heavy rainfall over the weekend. Now cyclone Fani has dissipated, but it has increased moisture over northeast India. Hence, moderate rain and thundershower activities are expected to continue in the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland for at least next four to five days.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited cyclone Fani affected Odisha to review the situation on May 6, Monday to take stock of the situation.
PM Modi praised the efforts of the Odisha government in tackling the situation and granted the release of Rs 1000 crores for relief work in the state. Earlier, the Centre had released Rs 1000 crores before the cyclone made a landfall in Odisha on Friday morning.
