Cyclone Fani: Centre releases Rs. 1000 Crore in Advance for affected States

GUWAHATI: The centre has released relief money of Rs. 1000 crore in advance to affected areas, announced Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a relief for Cyclone Fani while addressing a rally in Hindaun, Rajasthan.

PM Modi on 2nd May chaired a high-level meeting late evening to review preparedness a day before Cyclone Fani was likely to hit the coast of Odisha.

Modi along with a team of officials reviewed the cyclone’s scheduled path and planned the counter-measures to minimize damage.

According to reports, a total of 10 lakh people have been evacuated from the coastal areas of Odisha which has been one of the largest ever evacuation process in the country.

As per reports, three deaths reported in Odisha - one in Nayagarh, one in Kendrapara and another in Puri.

The centre is in continuous contact with governments in Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.
 
Extremely severe cyclonic storm 'Fani' made landfall in Puri on Odisha coast on Friday morning, triggering heavy rainfall coupled with high-velocity winds with speed of 175 kmph in vast areas.

Large areas in the seaside pilgrim town of Puri and other places were submerged in water as heavy rains battered the entire coastal belt of the state.
