GUWAHATI: The Meteorological department, in an extremely urgent circular yesterday, reported a strong likelihood of widespread effect of the fast approaching cyclone, AMPHAN, in Assam.

The notice issued warnings for western districts of the state which could be worst affected.

In view of the same, all Commissioners and the State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMA) were asked to ensure preventive measures and quick response systems to avoid loss of life and property.

The severe cyclonic storm has put the state authorities on high alert  and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been asked to be prepared to be summoned.

The Meteorological Department had earlier this week announced that both Assam and Meghalaya will witness scattered moderate to heavy rainfall due to the cyclonic storm.

The super cyclone is expected to make landfall in the state by May 21.
