GUWAHATI: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, identified as Simanta Saikia, lost his life in an accident in Assam's Lakhimpur district on Monday.
The incident occurred as the jawan, along with his wife and child, were returning from a picnic at Jamugurihat.
Police officials revealed to GPlus that the family's vehicle lost control and veered off the road, plunging into River Subansiri.
The jawan's wife and child managed to escape the sinking vehicle and reach the river banks, however, Simanta Saikia was unable to extricate himself in time and drowned while trapped inside the submerged vehicle.
Lakhimpur Police officials also told GPlus that the local residents in the vicinity used ropes and pulleys and pulled the vehicle from the river.
