GUWAHATI: Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday, November 16, donated medical equipment to a charitable hospital in Assam's Karimganj district to extend his support to underprivileged families.

Sachin Tendulkar, who is also the 'Goodwill Ambassador' of UNICEF has donated the necessary equipment to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to Makunda hospital in Karimganj district of Assam.

This move is expected to benefit more than 2000 children coming from poor families, as per an India Today report.

The report quoted Dr. Vijay Anand Ismael, Paediatric Surgeon of Makunda hospital as saying, "We are very thankful to Sachin Tendulkar’s foundation. We receive a lot of very rare cases and the pediatric surgical facilities in the North East are very limited. In the past 20 years, we are the main pediatric surgical facility of entire Northeast India and patients from all the NE states are coming here. We are thankful to Sachin Tendulkar’s foundation that they have decided to give us a very costly machine and other medical equipment."

Makunda hospital is located at the Patharkandi area in Karimganj district along the Assam-Mizoram border.
