COVID-19 Update: India Climbs to 5th Position, Surpasses Spain and Italy

GUWAHATI: The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in India rose to 2,46,628 which has brought India up to the 5th spot in the list of countries worst affected by the virus. The country has seen the biggest single day jump with close to 10,000 new cases reported in a day.

India has surpassed both Italy and Spain within a short span of 24 hours and lies just below the US, Brazil, Russia and the UK on the list.

The country now has 1,20,406 active cases as per the latest data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

In Assam, with a spike in the number of COVID-19 positive cases, the total tally has gone up to 2,473 as per State Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s latest Twitter update. The state now has 1,878 active cases with 230 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra with 82,968 cases is the worst-affected state by the disease, followed by Tamil Nadu with 30,152 cases. The tally of COVID-19 positive cases in the national capital stands at 27,654 with 761 deaths recorded in New Delhi so far and Gujarat has reported 19,592 positive so far.
