COVID-19 Update: 936 New Cases in 24 Hours, Assam Crosses 15,000 Mark

GUWAHATI: COVID-19 tally in Assam has gone up to 15,536. Of these, 5,650 people are currently active and 9,848 people have recovered from the infectious disease so far. The death toll from COVID-19 in Assam stands at 35.

936 new positive cases of COVID-19 were recorded from across the state of which 521 were reported from Guwahati city, as per state health Minister's twitter update at 11:55 PM on July 10.

“Alert ~ 936 new #COVID positive cases in Assam, 521 in Guwahati alone. Times are trying, indeed. With vigilance, precautions & care, we shall overcome.” tweeted the minister.

Kamrup Metro happens to be the worst affected district in the state and is the new COVID-19 hotspot of the region. The district has been under a 14-day lockdown since 29 June. Certain relaxations have been announced in Kamrup Metro for people to be able to procure essentials.

According to an estimate by the state health ministry, the number of COVID-19 cases was supposed to begin to show a downward trend from July 10 but as numbers continue to rise, there are speculations being made over the possibility of another lockdown extension.
