COVID-19 Situation Could Turn From Bad to Worse: Tarun Gogoi

GUWAHATI: Former Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, who is recovering from COVID 19 infection in Gauhati Medical College & Hospital lambasted the Assam government for failing to arrest the rapid spread of the virus in the state and warned that situation could turn from bad to worse.


The octogenarian Congress leader said, “The government of Assam, instead of containing Covid 19 situation, is further deteriorating it. There is shortage of beds, medicine, other infrastructure. Thereby it has proved that there is no proper coordination, consultation for drawing a strategic policy to deal with the Covid situation.”

In a statement released today he said that the government should gear up the machinery involving all sections of people irrespective of political affiliation. The government should involve NGOs, student organization, retired officials, NCC scouts & guides, civil services to meet the situation adequately, it said. 


Gogoi, who was admitted into GMCH on August 26 after he tested positive for coronavirus, also urged the government to ensure rigorous implementation of Covid 19 protocols.

 
Notably, a nine-member committee of doctors had been formed to monitor the health status of Gogoi who was also given plasma therapy due to fall in oxygen levels.
