COVID-19 Positive Cases in India Cross 3,00,000

GUWAHATI: Coronavirus cases in India stand at 3,08,993 with over 1,45,779 active cases and 8,884 deaths across the country so far, as per latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

India had surpassed the United Kingdom (UK) on June 12 and now lies just below the US, Brazil and Russia at the 4th spot on the list of countries worst affected by the pandemic.

The death toll in the national capital stands at 1,214 with a total number of 36,824 cases. Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected with 1,01,141 cases in total; the state has recorded 3,717 deaths which is the highest reported among all states.

Cases continue to rise in the southern state of Tamil Nadu with 40,698 cases and the number of positive cases in Gujarat stands at 22,527 with 1,415 deaths so far.

In Assam, the total number of persons affected by the deadly virus has reached 3,693. The state has 2,098 active coronavirus positive cases with 8 deaths recorded so far, as per the latest Twitter update by State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the state tally.

Moreover, as per media reports one more death has been supposedly reported in Hojai. The deceased has been identified as Ajgar Rahman Laskar, 27 years of age who had come to GMCH from Hojai with other ailments.

However, no official confirmation by the state government has come till the filing of this report.
