Covid-19 Northeast Update: Assam 16, Mizoram 1, Manipur 2, Arunachal 1

GUWAHATI: With the passing of days, new COVID-19 cases are being identified and reported in the northeast - especially in Assam - as within 24 hours the positive cases have gone up to 16.

In Assam, the first case was reported on March 31 wherein the patient had a travel history to Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin in Old Delhi and then to Guwahati and later on to his place of residence in Karimganj.

As soon as the news broke out, the imminent exponential rise in cases took place and within 24 hours, 16 Coronoavirus positive cases were registered across the state of Assam as on April 1, 2020; all are currently under medical supervision.

Meanwhile, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh took to Twitter at 12:30 AM on April 2 to announce that one more case of COVID-19 was detected in his state.

Further, the minister added that the person had attended the religious conglomeration of Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin in Delhi.

Of the 10 persons from Manipur who attended the Tablighi Jamaat Nizamuddin in the national capital between March 13 and 15, eight of them tested negative and one tested positive for coronavirus.

Earlier, a student with travel history to UK was found positive in the state; she is now recovering at Imphal.

In Mizoram, a 50-year-old pastor, who had recently returned from Amsterdam, tested positive for COVID-19 on March 25, 2020.

It is to be mentioned that the deadly virus is not sparing any states and as a result even Arunachal Pradesh has also fallen victim with its first case.

Arunachal Pradesh reported its first confirmed COVID-19 case on April 2. 

According to a source, the patient from Tezu in Lohit district who also has a travel history to Delhi has been kept in strict quarantine.
