COVID-19: Kamrup Metro Records Over 10,000 Total Cases, 5040 Active Cases

GUWAHATI: Kamrup Metro happens to be the worst affected district in Assam with over 10,000 COVID-19 positive cases of which 5040 cases are presently active. The district is now the COVID-19 hotspot of the entire region.

Assam reported 859 new cases of COVID-19 with 627 detected in Guwahati city alone, as per state health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma's twitter update at 11:50 PM on July 14.

With this, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Assam has gone up to 18,666 of which 12,173 have recovered so far and 6,444 are currently active. It is noteworthy that over 78 % of the total active cases are from Kamrup Metro.

The district has been under a 21-day ‘re-lock’ from June 29 post an ‘unlock’ which had begun at the beginning of June to bring help the state limp back to normalcy. 

Meanwhile, certain relaxations have been announced in Kamrup Metro for people to be able to procure essentials alongside which courier and e-commerce services have also been resumed.

According to an estimate by the state health ministry, the number of COVID-19 cases was supposed to begin to show a downward trend from July 10 but numbers continue to rise despite the prediction.
