COVID-19: 3 to be Discharged Today, Total Toll reaches 42 in Assam

GUWAHATI: Addressing a press meet on May 1, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that till now 42 people have tested COVID-19 positive in the state and three patients will be discharged today. 

Further, the minister added that Raja Jain of Nagaland, who was admitted in GMCH after testing positive has also been cured. 

He, along with two patients from Morigoan and one from Golaghat who were admitted in GMCH and MMCH respectively will be released today with no new cases reported from Morigoan and Golaghat.

Speaking about the list prepared by the Union home ministry on the district-wise zones, Sarma said that when MHA declared zones, Bongaigaon results were not known, hence Bongaigoan's status can be changed as per state government’s inputs.

However, the minister stated that now only the central government has the power to declare the districts as per their zonal status, and not the states. 

Currently there are 3 containment zone in Bongaigaon out of which 266 are quarantined and 509 people are home quarantined within containment zone.
