Tarnishing the glory of Cotton College, a section of MNDP hostel boarders of the institution who reportedly were in an inebriated condition, got into a disgraceful act of vandalism and molestation against UBER association, driver, Guwahati and Commandos of the women unit of the Assam Police, on Thursday night, at around 11:30 PM. It may be noted that the students vandalized cabs registered under UBER and also a few media vehicles. Reportedly, police personnel were molested when they tried to disperse the angry mob. The students not only assaulted the UBER drivers, but also the reporters and camera persons of the regional media houses. The students reportedly attacked the media persons with rods, cricket bats, and hockey sticks. Around 10 cab drivers were injured, while 30-40 vehicles were damaged including two media vehicles. It also came to light later that students of the MNDP hostel were involved in rampant abuse of marijuana and other substances. It has also been reported that several drivers have attacked Cotton College property and the hostel in particular. In response, journalists around several parts of the city are protesting against this uncivilized act of the students of Cotton College. More details awaited. This is the story that has been narrated to one of our reporters: At around 7 PM, Thursday an Uber came to drop a client near Cotton College where an auto driver snatched the UBER driver device and abused him to leave the area saying ‘you guys have taken our customers’. When the UBER driver protested and argued, a few Cottonians of MNDP Boys Hostel came out and were involved in a fight with the driver. The driver ran away saving his life towards the railway station and late, at around 10:30PM, the UBER driver went along with a few other driver to recover the handset. The drunk Cottonians came out and picked a fight with the UBER drivers. This led to UBER association informing its union, and all the UBER cabs available rushed towards the spot. Over 40 cabs were reported to have arrived at the spot including media and Police personnel. Cottonians not only vandalised all the vehicles but also have attacked the media vehicles and broke the cameras. Later Cottonians started protesting against the media shouting slogans of ‘Media Go Back’. The ACP Panbazar arrived at the spot along with CRPF and Veerangana personnel. One of the Veerangana Commandos was injured. Cameraman of a media house and many civilians were severly injured. Today, Morning at around 10 AM, the UBER Drivers protested in front of Panbazar Police Station lodging FIR against the Cottonians.
