Coronavirus Scare: No Orders Yet to Close Shopping Malls in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: There has been a lot of confusion among Guwahatians regarding what's open and what's closed owing to the Corona Virus scare.

Amidst rumours of the authorities closing down shopping malls and other shops in the city, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation has clarified that the government of Assam has given no such orders yet.

"Till now, GMC has not given any order to close down shopping malls in the city. The government of Assam has asked for regulation of such public places and we are engaged in doing the same," Dwijen Singh, Additional Commissioner of GMC informed G Plus.

It is to be mentioned that although shopping malls remain open, the footfall in such places have gone down tremendously.

However, as a measure to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in Assam, the government has issued instructions to close down all liquor bars/nightclub, beauty parlours and unisex salons. All schools, colleges and coaching centers are also closed as preventive measures.
