Coronavirus Scare: City Pavement Dwellers Shifted to Shelter Homes

GUWAHATI: Following a directive from the Deputy Commissioner (M), Biswajit Pegu, the district social welfare department carried out a drive to shift the people residing on the footpaths to different night shelter homes in Guwahati.

As per a release by the officials of the social welfare department, 33 persons including 7 women were shifted to four shelter homes in different parts of the city with the help of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).

The drive which was conducted in Panbazar and Paltan Bazar areas, mostly covered the beggars who used to beg near the Sukreswar Temple and Guwahati Railway Station.

The officials said that free ration would be provided for a week, however, facilities will be extended depending on the situation.
