GUWAHATI: In a recent development, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma engaged in a detailed discussion with 200 contractual Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) teachers on December 7.

The two-hour session, which included officials from the State Education Department, addressed crucial issues, particularly focusing on the proposed regularisation of contractual teachers, providing them with two options.

During the meeting, CM Sarma presented the teachers with a choice:

1.    Continuation under contract with service guarantee where teachers can choose to continue their service under a contractual arrangement with a guaranteed term, extending until the age of 60.
2.    Opt for regularisation effective April 1, 2024 where an alternative path allows teachers to opt for regularisation, and this process would take effect from April 1, 2024.

The two-pronged approach offers flexibility for contractual teachers to decide on the most suitable option for their career trajectory. This decision holds substantial implications for the contractual TET teachers, and the options provided were met with satisfaction, as expressed by the teachers during the session, claimed Minister Pegu.
