GUWAHATI: Residents and commuters are struggling with confusion regarding parking norms along B. Borooah Road in Guwahati.

The lack of clear signage at places and inconsistent enforcement have led to frustration among motorists and pedestrians alike.
Several commuters have reported being fined for parking in areas they believed were permitted, while others complained about vehicles parked haphazardly, causing traffic congestion. Local shopkeepers expressed concern about customers avoiding the area due to uncertainty over where parking is allowed.
Talking to GPlus, Kalyan Kakati, a local from Ulubari said, "The rules are unclear. There are no proper signs, and even the traffic officials seem to have conflicting information.”
Another resident on condition of anonymity said, “I have been fined several times for parking in spaces which I believed to be legal. The stretches are always creating confusion for us, as to where to park and where not to.”
Speaking to GPlus, a traffic official from Paltan Bazar police station said, “There are stretches of permitted parking on the left side of the B.Borooah Road if you are coming from Ulubari side. And the rule of the thumb is to check if there is adequate space beside the white marking line on the road/tarmac. If there is such space, anyone can park, given there are no No-Parking signs nearby. ”
“It just has to be made sure that the parked vehicles are at designated spaces beside the road and are not causing any traffic jams,” he added.
In the meantime, commuters have been advised to exercise caution and seek clarification when parking along B. Borooah Road checking for proper signages and spaces beside the road.
