Conflicting Guidelines in MHA Lockdown 4.0 Notification Creates Confusion in Sporting Circles

GUWAHATI: While the city along with the rest of the country awaited the Lockdown 4.0 guidelines with bated breath, the same, after its publication, has left the sporting fraternity of Guwahati rather confused.

The MHA notification stated as follows:

2. iv. All cinema halls, shopping malls, gymnasiums, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres, bars and auditoriums, assembly halls and similar places. Sports complexes and the stadium will be permitted to open, however, spectators will not be allowed.

2. v. All social/ political/ sports/ entertainment academic/ cultural/ religious functions/ other gatherings and large congregations.

While Point No 2. iv. clearly states that sports complexes and stadium can be opened without spectators, Point No 2.v. is also very clear that sports is on the prohibited list.

A regular recreational sportsman of the city remarked, “Why open a massive stadium without spectators (as per Point 2.iv.) when you can't have sports there as per Point 2.v.?”

The sporting fraternity feels that the state government might be able to throw more clarity in this regard by tomorrow.
