GUWAHATI: The State-wide Assam bandh called by the North East Students Organisation (NESO), has crippled life in the region after the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill was cleared by the Lower House on Tuesday.

Daily life was hit hard as several private and government institutions, business houses, schools and colleges remained closed.

Several inter-city and long-distance commuters have suffered because of the bandh.

Security has been tightened at all major railway stations of Assam.

Moving further along from the city, the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is functioning normally so far as flights are concerned. There has been no delay or cancellation of flights due to the bandh.

Speaking to G Plus, Mrinal Goswami, resident of Guwahati said that his car was stopped thrice after crossing Bharalmukh towards airport. Protesters tried to stop his car and also tried to damage the vehicle, however, police came to the rescue.

"I suggest each and evey citizen to avoid the stretch from Bharalumukh to airport for today, untill and unless its emergency," he added.

A lot of people reached the airport early in the morning for their flights as a precautionary measure.

While the commuters might have faced problems on their way to the airport, a chaotic situation has also been reported for passengers who landed into Guwahati and are currently stranded due to the lack of public vehicles.
