GUWAHATI: Frequent traffic gridlock on the Ariz path near Guwahati Club rotary is cause of serious concern, and commuters are annoyed with the situation.

The complaints gradually turned into anger after the authority decided to barricade the rotary and initiate the piling test for the upcoming elevated corridor connecting Dighalipukhuri and Noonmati.

What was supposed to be a development project for the city stands as an obstacle for the smooth commute of citizens.

The traffic snarl escalates especially during the peak hours making it difficult for the citizens to reach their work places at the designated time.

A frequent commuter while speaking to GPlus said, "It is very annoying to get past this portion. Vehicles from all the side barges into the free space and clogs it. Often we have to wait for a long time until the jam gets cleared. An interesting fact is that I've never seen any traffic official at this crucial junction. What is the traffic department doing?"

After GPlus tried to confirm about the accusations, a vendor near the vicinity agreed that no traffic police official are deployed at that location.

"Only at times when special dignitaries travel through this road we witness the traffic police doing their duty," added the vendor.

Meanwhile, a Public Works Department (PWD) official talking to GPlus said, "We are still continuing with the piling test, hence it will take some time. As of now we cannot assure a definite time when the rotary will be open for the public."

The area falls under Latasil Police Station, when GPlus contacted the traffic department an official stated, "We often assign officials to help navigate the traffic throughout the day. When the traffic congestion is comparatively less, we send those official to a different location. Moreover, the department is understaffed."

There seems to be a contradiction about the presence of a traffic official for the ease of movement. Residents are not satisfied with the authority for such frequent changes. Despite of the patience which the public portray, the authority is negligent about their issues and is yet to come up with a solution.
