GUWAHATI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) is set to win the Sorbhog seat which is within the Barpeta district of Assam. This seat was earlier held by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Ranjeet Dass. As per the latest trends from the Sorbhog seat, CPI (M) candidate Manoranjan Talukdar is leading by over 8114 votes from his nearest rival Shankar Chandra Das of the BJP who is trailing with 5532 votes.

BJP president Dass shifted from this seat, which he won in 2016, to contest from Patacharkuchi as he was aware that people of Sorbhog were unhappy with him, especially as there had been no development and a number of people had suffered owing to harassment and sufferings during the updation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The tea tribes which forms a significant part of the voting population in the Sorbhog constituency too were extremely unhappy with him for failing to mitigate the problems that the tea workers and their families have been facing for long.

Meanwhile, as per the latest trends of the state-wide results scenario, the BJP and its allies have gained a lead in 80 seats and the grand alliance led by the Indian National Congress (INC) in 46 seats.
