Colleges Across Guwahati Pay Tribute To CAA Protest Martyrs

GUWAHATI: Educational institutes across Guwahati on March 13 came together to honour the memory of the people who lost their lives in 2019 during the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) protests.

At B Borooah College, tribute was led by former General Secretary Madhu S Deka, along with B Borooah College Students’ Union President Bikram Goyary, Vice President Bhaskar Rava, and GS Manas Das along with other students of the college. 

Remembering the sacrifices made during the CAA movement, the students expressed their unwavering stance against the implementation of the controversial act.

Talking to GPlus, a member of the B Borooah Students’ Union said, "Remembering the five martyrs of the CAA movement today, we want to remind the government and the people of Assam that the students of Assam will never accept the implementation of  CAA."

Similarly, Arya Vidyapeeth College also paid homage to the CAA martyrs, echoing sentiments of resistance and solidarity.

Meanwhile, Handique Girls’ College Students’ Union articulated their opposition to the CAA, choosing to prioritise the safety and well-being of their students over active participation in protests. Emphasising the importance of maintaining peace and preserving the academic pursuits of their students, the union affirmed its commitment to supporting legal efforts aimed at repealing the CAA. 

The tributes come amidst ongoing protests against the implementation of the CAA which was notified by the Centre on March 11. In 2019, five people lost their lives and numerous others were injured across Assam during the protests.
