Closing Ceremony Celebrates the Successful Conclusion of Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan

GUWAHATI: A programme to commemorate the success of the Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan was held on January 21, 2021 at Natasurjya Phani Sarma Bhawan, in Goalpara District of Assam. 


The Programme was attended by Sh. Rajiv Yadav, Chairman Brahmaputra Board, Smt. Varnali Deka, Deputy Commissioner, Goalpara District, Commandant of 1st Bn NDRF Sh. R. S. Gill, Prof. Arup Sarma of IIT Guwahati, Vice Chairman of Brahmaputra Board Sh. P. M. Scott. and the entire Rafting Team.

Brahmaputra Board under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India organised the Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan, which concluded on January 20, 2021 at Assameralga, near Indo-Bangladesh Border. The rafting expedition team led by Smt. Suhashini Shekhawat with NDRF members successfully docked at the last destination point (Assameralga) yesterday.


Various Institutions and the rafting team were felicitated in the function who played an active role and were associated with the Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan. Winning students of Goalpara area who participated in the Debate and Essay Writing competition on "Living With The River" were also warmly felicitated in the function.

Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan is an initiative of the Government of India organized by Brahmaputra Board (Ministry of Jal Shakti) with a two pronged approach:-

● A Public Outreach Programme focusing on the younger generation to inculcate the concept of "Living with the River".

● A combined scientific data collection and analysis of river water quality, river sediment, river bank erosion and fish habitat along the entire route of the expedition.
