Clashes At Congress's Tanzil Hussain’s Nomination Rally For Upcoming Bye-Election In Assam's Samaguri

 

GUWAHATI: A nomination rally for Tanzil Hussain, son of Congress MP Rakibul Hussain, turned chaotic in Samaguri on October 24 as clashes erupted between Congress and BJP workers.

The rally, initially organised to show support for Tanzil’s candidacy in the upcoming bye-elections, spiralled into chaos when tensions between the two groups escalated.

As per reports, the situation intensified when Rakibul Hussain stepped out of his vehicle to address the crowd. Supporters from both Congress and BJP surged towards the stage, leading to further shouting and pushing between the workers.
The constituency has been witness to a few brawls.

The Indian National Congress (INC) has announced its candidates for the by-elections in five constituencies. Tanzil will contest from Samaguri, a seat previously held by his father, Rakibul Hussain. The latter had won with an overwhelming margin of 10,12,476 votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In addition to Samaguri, by-elections will be held in Dholai (SC), Sidli (ST), Bongaigaon, and Behali, following vacancies created by the Lok Sabha elections.
