GUWAHATI: Former Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan has been appointed as the new President of the Asom Sonmilito Morcha (ASOM). The announcement was made during a press conference following a key meeting of the Morcha on Thursday, October 24.

In addition to Bhuyan's appointment, it was announced that Jones Ingti Kathar and Suprakash Talukdar have been entrusted with the responsibilities of executive presidents.
This leadership reshuffle comes just a day after Bhupen Borah resigned as president of the ASOM citing "pressure" and ongoing unresolved disputes surrounding the candidacy for the Behali bypoll, Borah stepped down from his position on Wednesday, October 23.
