City’s Young Minds Shine At Guwahati Chess Championship 2025

 

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati City Selection Chess Championship 2025 concluded at Shikshak Bhawan, Chandmari, with young talents emerging victorious across multiple categories. Held on March 17 and 18, the tournament featured competitions in the Under-7, Under-11, and Under-15 categories for both boys and girls.

In the Under-15 Boys category, Tanmoy Chakraborty claimed the title, remaining unbeaten with 5.5 points from six rounds. Harshadeep Deka and Anish Goswami both secured 5 points, but Deka was placed second based on a tie-break score, while Goswami settled for third. Himanish Kumar Sarma, with 4.5 points, finished fourth.  

The Under-15 Girls category saw Hridika Das dominate the field with a perfect 5 points from five rounds. Nibhriti Goswami and Ritisha Mayra Rajbongshi each scored 3.5 points, with Goswami securing second place on tie-break. Navishtha Hazarika, with 3 points, finished fourth.  

In the Under-11 Boys category,Aarohan secured the title with 5.5 points from six rounds. Niyar Riyan Kalita, with 5 points, claimed second place, while Mabhanyu Kaman and Bhaumik Kishore Das, also scoring 5 points, were ranked third and fourth, respectively, based on tie-break scores.  

Among the Under-11 Girls, Chaarvi Shree Barman emerged victorious with 4 points from five rounds. Akanksha Kalita and Nistha Saikia, both scoring 4 points, were placed second and third, respectively, while Pragyaparasha Handique, with 3.5 points, finished fourth.  

In the Under-7 Boys category, Reyaan Nobis clinched the championship with 5 points from five rounds. Gaurab Sarma secured second place with 4 points, followed by Pranodit Medhi in third with 3.5 points, and Dhishan Medhi in fourth with 3 points.  

The Under-7 Girls category saw Aahana Agarwala take the title with 2 points, while Hiyashri Deka and Kayra Agarwal finished second and third, respectively.  

A total of 124 players participated in the tournament. FIDE Instructor Pranab Kumar Nath served as the Chief Arbiter, assisted by Deputy Arbiter Monimala Sinha and a team including Khanindra Barman, Shankar Barooah, Mrinal Kakati, Medha Baruah, and Prayag Hazarika.    

All top-four finishers in each category will represent Guwahati in the forthcoming All Assam Inter-District Chess Championship.
