GUWAHATI: Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi who delivered landmark judgement like Ayodhya and was the architect of NRC in Assam was nominated today by the President Of India for Rajya Sabha.
Justice Gogoi, the first person from northeast who was appointed as the Chief Justice of India on 3rd October 2018, had retired on 17th November 2019.
The gazetted stated, "In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-clause (a) of clause (1) of article 80 of the Constitution of India, read with clause (3) of that article,, the President is pleased to nominate Shri Ranjan Gogoi to the Council of States to fill the vacancy caused due to the retirement of one of the nominated member."
