The Indian contenders include Kanguva (Tamil), Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life, Malayalam), Santosh (Hindi), Swatantrya Veer Savarkar (Hindi), All We Imagine as Light (Malayalam-Hindi), Girls Will Be Girls (Hindi-English), and Putul (Bengali).
Directed and produced by Indira Dhar, Putul has become the first Bengali film ever to compete for the Best Picture category at the Oscars. The Oscar nomination voting process will run from January 8 to January 12, with the final list of nominees set to be announced on January 17. The grand Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 2, at the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood.
In addition to feature films, Indian talent is also making waves in the short film category. Anuja, a short film with Indian roots, has been shortlisted in the Live Action Short category. The film is executive produced by Guneet Monga, a two-time Oscar-winning producer, further solidifying India's presence on the global stage.
Despite India’s official entry, Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, being selected for the Best International Feature Film category, the movie did not make it to the shortlist.
