Centre's Inter-Ministerial Team visits Assam's Flood Affected Districts

GUWAHATI: An inter-ministerial team of the government of India visited the flood-affected districts of the state from 21st to 23rd February 2019. The team visited flood-affected areas of Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar districts for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in the wake of floods in 2018 in the state.

The team comprised of Sanjeev Kr Jindal, Joint Secretary, Disaster Management, Ministry of Home Affairs (Team Leader), S. S. Modi, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, S. C. Meena, Joint Director, Ministry of Finance (DoE), Jintu Das, Joint Director, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare, Ravi Ranjan, Superintending Engineer, Ministry of Water Resources and Sachin Kumar Gautam, Executive Engineer, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.

The team visited the breached sites at Nikori and erosion affected areas of Bokakhat sub-division and the site of the Sambhuram Miri ME School, which was severely damaged during the last flood in Golaghat district.

Further, the team also visited the bank erosion site of Ghancharai, breached point of Singra and other flood-damaged areas of Lakhimpur district.

In Karimganj district, the team visited the Indo-Bangladesh border areas of Sutarkandi, Lakshmi Bazar and adjacent areas.

Again in Cachar district, the team visited the erosion-prone areas of Rajatilla-Horitikor, Shib-bari and Tarapur, where the PWD road was severely damaged during the last flood season.  

During their visit, the team also interacted with the senior officials of the government of Assam, the district administration and other concerned departmental officials of the visiting districts.
