Centre Refuses Extra Opportunity to UPSC Aspirants who Missed the Last Attempt in 2020

GUWAHATI: No extra opportunity will be provided to civil service aspirants who had missed their last opportunity for appearing in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This was informed by Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, on behalf of the Centre to a Supreme Court bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar on January 22.


Earlier, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had told the bench that the government was considering the issue of granting one more opportunity to those civil services aspirants who could not appear in their last attempt to crack the UPSC exam.

On 30th September last, the apex court had asked the central government to consider giving a second chance to the candidates who had failed to appear in the last attempt due to the pandemic situation, when the Centre refused to postpone the exam. 


The bench has asked the Centre to file an affidavit in this regard before January 25.
