Talking to GPlus, a senior official from the Vigilance Cell said, “A total of ₹4 lakh in cash was found during the operation today. In addition, we have traced disproportionate assets, including 12 high-end vehicles, two bungalows, and multiple flats in Guwahati.”

This comes after an earlier raid at Baruah’s residence, during which the team recovered ₹38.9 lakh in cash, a licensed .32 pistol, 44 rounds of ammunition, and a large quantity of gold jewellery, among other valuables.

Earlier last week, the Vigilance Cell arrested two ACS officers after a raid carried in Guwahati’s Bhetapara locality.

The officers, identified as Masum Yusuf Ahmed and Tanvir Yusuf Ahmed, were taken into custody after officials conducted a search operation at their residence. During the operation, cash amounting to ₹1 lakh was seized along with several documents believed to be of significance to the investigation.

Cases (numbers 8/2025 and 9/2025) have been registered against the officers under the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell under relevant sections of the law.
