GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police on Friday, October 11 arrested Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi for protesting near DC Kamrup (M) office against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).

Gogoi along with 70 other regional organisations started an awareness campaign against CAB on Friday.

A large number of protestors marched the street to protest against the Bill which is said to be placed in the parliament by December. KMSS aims to create awareness among people about its ill-effects.

CAB seeks to provide Indian citizenship to Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan after seven years of residence instead of 12 years, which is the norm currently, even if they do not possess any document.
