Breastfeeding Rooms Introduced At Guwahati And Kamakhya Railway Stations

GUWAHATI: In a progressive move to support breastfeeding mothers, the Assam Women and Child Development Department has taken a significant step by establishing dedicated breastfeeding rooms at Guwahati and Kamakhya railway stations.

To create an environment conducive to breastfeeding, exclusive corners have been set up at Guwahati Railway Station and Kamakhya Railway Station. These corners offer privacy for mothers to breastfeed comfortably and are equipped with essential informational materials, including Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) resources and wall displays.

By spreading awareness and knowledge about breastfeeding, these innovative corners in railway stations aim to promote the well-being of both the mother and child, extending their impact beyond just breastfeeding mothers and reaching the broader public.

The initiative is taken during World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually from August 1 to 7. The theme for this year's World Breastfeeding Week, "Enabling breastfeeding: making a difference for working parents," underscores the importance of initiating breastfeeding within one hour after birth, regardless of whether it's a normal delivery or a caesarean section.
