GUWAHATI: Supreme Court orders transfer of Assam National Register of Citizens (NRC) coordinator Prateek Hajela, to Madhya Pradesh on deputation.
According to reports, this decision was taken due to security reasons.
A bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, however, did not specify the reason, why they are transferring NRC Coordinator Hajela to Madhya Pradesh.
Hajela is from the 1995 batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, appointed the NRC coordinator by the Supreme Court, was in the thick of things while navigating the choppy political waters of the state that was cleaved along communal and linguistic lines over the sensitive issue.
