GUWAHATI: Member of the Legislative Assembly from Sivasagar and President of Raijor Dal, Akhil Gogoi was suspended from the first day of the Legislative Assembly reportedly for making comments about the increasing number of crimes in cities like Guwahati.
The MLA reportedly cited data and said that last year (2021) 48 women were raped and killed in Assam and instances like chain snatching sexual harassment have become extremely common in cities like Guwahati.
Akhil Gogoi took to Twitter and mentioned the same.

It is to be mentioned that G Plus had reported the story earlier on Aug 30, 2022, citing NCRB data which stated Assam tops the list of Indian States in crimes against women.
Gogoi talking to the media after the suspension slammed the government for not allowing him to raise questions.
